Newsletter 21 from Clarissa

Last Sunday was a full day! There  were lots of wazungus there as it was the day of Dad's commissioning.. So the crowd included Lead Bishop Marlin's family, Tony's, Kore, and our home bishop John and Linda, and as usual we and Carolyn were there too.  We had two messages that day instead of Sunday school. Then after the services we celebrated with bread and quencher.. That, by the way was not our idea! The natives thought that we need to celebrate the commissioning of the new bishop!! So we did and they sure enjoyed the quencher and bread! And can you imagine? I think some of the little boys ate six slices of that dry bread!! We took 25 loaves to church and 24 got eaten.. We gave the last one to a widow, so we had none left!! We wazungus did not necessarily fill up on that food, but rather we all went to Marlin's and enjoyed a delicious lunch there. And after that we went home and began to prepare for the compound activity that was to be held at our place.. and then I went back to Marlin's where the youth practiced a few songs to sing at the evening activity. I did have some free time then which was nice=). And the evening consisted of youth singing, John preaching a message on Peace, and then a random men's group singing... which was all followed by a wonderful supper. The rest of the evening was also enjoyed.. visiting and listening to stories=)..

Monday was another unusual day.. The whole school got up bright and early to go on a boat ride on Lake Victoria.. It was a beautiful morning and the sunrise was gorgeous!! We had a good time and we got to see hippos and lots of birds, and boats too! Then we all came back for a wonderful breakfast provided by Stacy, Janette, and Sylvia.. Then we all trotted down to school for what was left of the school day.. We dismissed at 12 then because the ladies were going swimming because of Marji leaving soon, and the girls and teacher wanted to join.. So we headed out but the pool was full as a result of it being a Kenyan holiday.. So that was  a bummer but we still did have some fun. That evening John's were here for supper and we really enjoyed our time with them..

I had a full school day on Tuesday.. We had music and chorus practice for one of the last times with Marji =(.. I hate to think about that.. Anyway after school we all heaeded to the animal market with Johns.. We were there for a while..  Then after coming back, we headed over to Josephs for a yummy supper and the evening.

On Wednesday we had the normal half day of school.. It was different tho because Miss C and Tommy's children were out for the day doing something with their church. So we just went without a teacher.. =) Actually no we didn't!! Don't know how we would survive without one..=) Janette did a good job of substituting that day. We  got home from school and ate lunch with Johns after which they, along with mom and dad headed out to Bible Study.. So we did some jobs that afternoon and then at 4:30 Shonda and I went over to Marlin's for a party that LuAnn threw=).. We enjoyed some yummy food and a good time. Then when everyone got back from Bible study we headed out for a lovely evening at the lake! The sunset was gorgeous!! The mosquitoes were really bad tho which was a pain.

Thursday we were back at school.. It was pretty much normal but we did have yummy ice cream cones for Hannah's birthday which was a real treat!! After school we had an early supper then took Johns to the airport.. So we had more good byes to say again.. I guess we'll get pretty good at those.. Or not!! The exciting thing is that my Grandpa Yoders are in Nakuru! So on Thurday evening we were tracing their flight.. Prayer meeting was hosted by Jakes that evening, and afterward the youth went over to Marlins to practice some nice Swahili songs for Tommys upcoming farewell.

Friday was another short school day for a few of us. Our family and Tommys, as well as Janette and LuAnn headed to Rondo that afternoon. The trip there was good but we did have lots of rain part of the way.. Thankfully when we got there it had quit and we could get settled in our cute lil cabins. Btw all the girls except Nessa and Sierra had our own cabin which was quite nice!=) We had some tea and hot chocolate and played some fun games.. After a very nice supper in the dining room, we came back and a few of us played Can't Stop=).. That evening we girls hung out in our cabin for a while which was fun again!!

Saturday morning we got up for a yummy breakfast.. They served us all our meals which was another nice thing=)..Then we got all our stuff out of the houses and just enjoyed the grounds.  Our activities that day included a nice lil walk to a fish pond, playing Kan Jam and throwing frisbee, and singing in the chapel they had there. After lunch we wrapped up and left. I would have loved to stay longer but we needed to go! All in all it was a very enjoyable time.. After the bumpy ride home we unpacked and that evening at 7 Shonda and I went over to practice a program song at Tommy's..

So I'll wrap up wishing ya'll a wonderful week!! Keep living for Jesus! Rissa
